Day 13: Why have so many bought into nonsense?
Proverbs 14:15,
“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.”
A few years ago, four ladies looking to change the world stumbled upon the perfect situation. The perception of police brutality against black Americans led to the creation of the hashtag #Black Lives Matter. The hashtag was perfect, it was easy to believe, easy to support and many people gravitated to the movement.
Within a short period of time, all facets of society began to support the movement. Black screens, BLM flags and murals followed. If you didn’t support the cause, you were the problem. People followed BLM with a devotion and zeal that could only be described as cultish. Fast forward a year plus and this innocent movement has revealed its true colors.
The agenda of the BLM leaders has proven to be antithetical to what the hashtag suggests their purpose was/is. In fact, BLM has become a religion that embraces ancestor worship and idolatry. The BLM religion has rituals such as say their names, places of worship such as George Floyd Square and symbols such as murals and t-shirts of their patron saints along with the raised black fist—the equivalent of the cross. As Patrisse Cullors a BLM leader stated, “spirituality is at the center of BLM”, “the hashtag is more than a hashtag it is literally almost resurrecting a spirit so they can work through us” and “when we speak their names, we invoke that spirit, and those spirits actually become present.”
Because people were not prudent and gave thoughts to their steps, they believed everything BLM said and as a result, many have chosen their skin color and culture over Jesus. Their behavior is consistent with 2 Timothy 4:3-4,
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
Action: Please pray for those who have fallen away to cults.
