Day Ten: The God of Wonders

Psalms 8:1,

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.

Has it been awhile since you’ve stood in wonder of God’s creation? Just the other night I sat on our deck reading my bible on my phone while looking off into the northern dark sky watching the creative light show God was putting on display. Just days before, I was on a walk in the middle of the day and admiring God’s creatures he had created. I saw a porcupine and was intrigued by the defenses he created for animals and the very uniqueness of each one, dumbfounded by the notion that all this could have been created by accident. By happenstance. It got me thinking about worshiping God for His majestic creation and awesome power to speak such creativity into motion. To be in awe of God’s wonder is worship.

His creation even speaks of who He is, the designer and creator. Romans 1:20 says; “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

From the molecular building blocks of life to the smells and scenes that surround us every day, especially here in Montana. We take for granted the fact that his eternal power and divine nature is demonstrated by what we see. We’ve been so desensitized to think that it’s no biggie and not so wondrous but we know that chaos never constructs, but rather destructs.

I thought of an illustration of taking people into my house and telling them that it was the most miraculous thing ever. The lumber yard delivered all the lumber and materials in my empty lot when I received news that a tornado was coming. When it came through, I was astonished to find that my house… just was. What I thought would be a pile of materials strewn about was actually a turn-key residence. Absurd? Absolutely! But this is the absurdity of believing that everything both heaven and earth were created by accident. From nothing. It all points to a designer and a builder. God is a god of order. Our creator and sustainer. We would be amiss to conclude anything else and we would also be remiss to worship the creation rather than the Creator.

All Glory to God!
