Miserable Men

Opening Thoughts:

If there were no resurrection, then what is there to live for?

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 15:17-18, Psalm 146:5

Devotion:

In 1 Corinthians 15:19, the Apostle Paul tells us that if our hope is in an un-resurrected Christ then we of all people are to be most pitied or miserable. This word means – wretchedly unhappy or uncomfortable. Do you remember how your life was before hearing that Jesus came to this earth, bled and died on the cross to pay your sin debt? If you were like me, I was pretty miserable. But Jesus did rise from the grave! When I understood what Christ had done for me, I was no longer a miserable person but one filled with hope because Christ had risen from the grave, and so would I, and so will you if you have accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation.

Application:

So many Christians live a miserable life because they won’t allow the hope that is in Christ to rule and reign in their life. What is our hope? In Titus 2:13, the bible tells us that our hope is, “the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” Why won’t you give your life to the Lord to be your Savior? Christian, why won’t you give you life to the Lord, to guide and direct you to bring glory and honor to Him? He is our only hope in this life and the life to come. Give yourself wholly and completely to Him.

Prayer:

Lord, I know that I don’t have to be miserable in this life because you are my blessed hope. Help me to live a life that shows it.
