Day 19: His Love Endures Forever

“…his love endures forever.” (v. 21)

We recently celebrated Valentine’s Day, my long-time favorite holiday. It’s such a fun day. I will never get over the joy it brings me each year. Love is worth celebrating!

Kids decorate shoeboxes and bring valentines to their classmates at school, flowers are sent, and couples exchange gifts or enjoy a romantic meal. Personally, my favorite iteration is Galentine’s Day, a day to celebrate the sweet gift of female friendship. Men, I don’t know how you acknowledge your friends, but I sure hope you do. The important people in our lives need to know we care and that they matter to us.

Whether you think Valentine’s Day is just another commercial holiday created by Hallmark to sell cards or the most wonderful day of the year, it’s good to celebrate love. After all, God is love, love is from God, and he has commanded us to love one another. His perfect love endures forever.

Jesus modeled sacrificial love for us and the Bible gives us instruction on what love-in-action looks like and entails. We get multiple opportunities every day to demonstrate our love to the people in closest proximity – our family, friends, and co-workers – by our words and actions.

Don’t wait for the next Valentine’s Day to roll around. If you skipped the holiday on Sunday, commit to honor and cherish your loved ones today by expressing your affection or care. It’s never too late and it’s always appreciated.

Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Today’s encouragement: Tell someone you love them. Kiss your sweetheart, hug your child, or text a friend and express your appreciation.

Prayer: Lord, I am satisfied in your perfect, unfailing love. With the love I’ve been given, help me to love others well.
